Finance Ministry publishes citizen-friendly visualisation tool
The federal Austrian budget creates the financial framework for the fulfilment of government responsibilities. It is not always easy, especially for non-specialists, to gain a general overview of the extensive set of figures involved, so for this reason the Federal Ministry of Finance has developed a new interactive tool for visualising budget data.
"Through this newly-developed application, we are creating even more transparency, and making budget data more accessible for interested citizens. In just a few clicks, every taxpayer can find out where their tax euros are going," explains Finance Minister Gernot Blümel.
'The Budget in Charts and Figures' has been available since presentation of the draft budget for 2022, and will be available retrospectively for years dating back to 2018. The charts and tables can be used interactively, and data sources are identical to those used in the budget documentation. In future, they will be posted online in parallel to all other documents after each budget speech.
On the budget landing page, at bmf.gv.at > Themen > Budget > Das Budget, users are provided with an overview of the profit and loss budget and funding budget, with presentation of net revenue and net borrowing for a selected year. From here, they can click through to the detailed budgets via the individual headings, enabling them to quickly gain a helpful overview of the budget in question.
